Wilsons Promontory National Park, or "The Prom" as it is affectionately known, is Victoria's largest coastal wilderness area.

This extremely popular park is the southernmost tip of mainland Australia and has the most remarkable natural beauty.

The park is awash with wildlife and incredibly stunning walking trails with a dramatic scene at every turn. Wilsons Promontory is also Victoria's largest Marine National Park.

Our purpose with this post is to give you just enough insight to spark your curiosity and enable you to plan your own expedition of discovery. Blessed are the curious for they shall have adventures.

For us, the best thing we did at this park was to explore many of the walking trails through the peninsular which are absolutely stunning trails with a dramatic scene at every turn that left us in awe.

The granite peaks of Mount Bishop & Mount Oberon provide a really unique rugged wilderness vista.

Check out all the walks available in this National Park link.

The tranquil waters of Tidal River make for very memorable exploring. Tidal River is a dominant part of the park. The early morning and late afternoon walks provide some great photo opportunities.

The National Park is a 50,000 hectare reserve with a substantial network of walking trails.

The WPNP Visitors Guide and maps can be found in the link to Wilsons Promontory NP.

A visit in spring will provide an spectacular display of wild flowers including orchids, wattle, heathland and many other species.

The Visitors Centre is at Tidal River which is where we camped being the most popular campground in the park. Tidal River also has cabins, huts, group lodges and wilderness retreats. There is no fuel at Tidal River so the closest place for fuel is Yanakie.

There is a significant amount of wildlife at the park including kangaroos, emus, wombats, echidnas, and many very colourful birds. I think this fella above works out.

Norman Beach is fantastic for swimming and is the main beach in the park next to Tidal River campground. Other beaches, with vehicular access, include Squeaky Beach, Whisky Bay and Picnic Bay.

Wilsons Promontory is one of the richest eco systems off the coast of Australia and is Victorias largest Marine National Park. This makes an outstanding destination for snorkelling or scuba diving. The granite cliffs plunging into the sea is also quite a spectacle.

May adventure & discovery be your constant companions.

Reflection:

For me, a trip is memorable when I am enriched by a deeper sense of connection to a place which triggers an emotional or spiritual response. This comes from feelings of Awe when I feel part of something bigger. Such as, seeing dramatic landscapes, being caught up in the history and sensing the passion of the human spirit.

A memorable experience will cause me to day dream about the next trip even more than the last trip.

Remember: Your adventure begins the moment you decide to go.
